Maintain Your Carpet With These 3 Easy Tips

With people running in and out of your home, your carpet is literally taking a beating every single day. As a result your carpet will eventually start to look dingy and dirty. This of course is not a good look for any home.

There is however good news. Taking care of your carpet is not as difficult as you may think. Here are 3 easy tips that will help you keep your carpet looking good for many years to come.

#1 – Always Take Your Shoes Off

This is by far the easiest carpet maintenance tip there is. When you walk into your home, the first thing you should do is take your shoes. The bottom of your shoe is full of all sorts of dirt and bacteria. The last thing you want to do is drag all of that onto your carpet.

Make taking your shoes off a habit. Have your house shoes right by the door so you can slip them on right before you walk on the carpet.

#2 – Vacuum Several Times a Week

If your home gets a lot of foot traffic you should vacuum your carpet a minimum of 2 times per week. If you have the time go for 3 times per week.  Vacuuming will prevent the carpet from wearing down and needing to be replaced within a couple of years.

For best results make sure your vacuum is always up to par. Empty the bag before it gets full and clean the brushes to ensure there is no debris obstructing the airflow.

#3 – Shut The Blinds When You Aren’t Home

While sunshine is good for our health, it is not good for the health of the carpet. Too much sunlight can actually cause carpet to age faster. To prevent this make it a point to shut all blinds before you leave home.
